Before choosing new attire for the beach and pool this season, arm yourself with the knowledge of the latest swimsuit trends. From the boutique to the runway, here’s what’s in for 2013 swimwear:
Trend #1: The One-Piece
2013 Swimwear Trend Number One–fittingly, the One-Piece is back! But this time it’s better than ever, taking a cue from retro looks, highlighting women’s bodies with cut-outs and lace. This trend is looking just fabulous, and is already super popular with designers. Micheal Kors, DKNY, Jason Wu, Herve Leger, Marc Jacobs, and Betsey Johnson all included one-piece suit designs in their latest shows at New York’s Fashion Week.
Trend #2: Retro-wear
This is part of the reason why one-piece classically cut swimwear is making a comeback. The pin-up look is big this season, from celebrities to models sporting the look. If you want to look eye-catching this summer, think about classic cuts that incorporate grace, elegance, and fun. Styles included in this look are not just elegant one-pieces that are cut gorgeously, but also tankinis and nautical looks.
Trend #3 Embellishments
From criss-crosses and ties, to sparkling jewels and ruffles, the latest Victoria’s Secret Swimwear collection saw embellishments galore. The fabulous people at Fajo Magazine did a great job highlighting all of the newest swimwear trends from Victoria’s Secret’s 2013 collection.
Trend #4 Black & Bold
While perennial swimsuit color choice black remains uber popular, this season it’s joined by some very bold prints.
Trend #5 Swimsuit Cover-ups
What is one way to add embellishments, bold prints, and even vintage style to your swimsuit, no matter what kind of suit you’re wearing? Cover-ups! As seen in a very recent episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, cover-ups are coming into their own this year. Designers such as Marc Jacobs have released bold cover-ups this season.
2013 swimwear trends offer options for all tastes and figures. Consider expanding your comfort zone with new print and color choices. If in doubt this season, stick to the retro look. The various prints, colors, and styles found there are great for any body type, no matter its flaws or best features, and you can find something that fits your tastes just right.
